~a 6-week intermediate level craft & workshop-based course that refines one narrative through many forms ~

instructor: Allison Field Bell

The beauty of playing in flash is that you can experiment and experiment again. In this course, you’ll work through the same short prose narrative, not just revising but re-configuring it into multiple different forms. You’ll learn the art of radical revision not in theory but in practice. Every week, you will revise your piece with specific parameters in mind that aim to challenge you to think outside the box, that encourage you to push yourself and your narrative into new and unanticipated spaces. This means you will be rewriting your flash each week. This course is designed around one narrative, but the strategies you learn will translate across other pieces and other genres. Every meeting period will be half workshop, half craft discussion. This course is meant to be more rigorous than an introductory Field Works workshop, and is slightly longer, slightly smaller to allow for a full workshop experience each time. Please plan to attend each meeting if possible, though meetings can be recorded if necessary.
